Jacquet art glass comport, retailed by Liberty of London
« on: May 13, 2017, 12:48:27 PM »
I bought this comport the other day just because I liked it  :) I didn't know who made it, but is a quality piece. The vendor said it was retailed by Liberty of London and he had contacted them to confirm it.

The comport is signed on the base. The only part I can make out is Jacquet '89, presumably 1989. There is a signature before Jacquet which I can't make out. I wonder if the first part of the signature is the glass maker and Jacquet is the studio. The comport is about 18 cm high and 22 cm across the rim. The foot seems moulded and the top hand made. There is an indistinct joint just above the foot.

A search of the web and this site found nothing. I guess the maker is French, just by the name. Perhaps searching in English is not the way to get more information.

Does anyone know the maker? I hope the pictures help.

I think the first bit reads Schmid.
Lots of german results for Schmid-Jacquet.

Thank you. I found the same piece searching for 'Schmid-Jacquet' but can't find anything definite about the maker. I have found a couple of pieces said to be from Glasbläserei Schmid in Zwiesel/Lindberg that have some similarity in the form of my comport. Is this the same Schmid?

I read the vita at Karl Schmid's web site (http://www.glas-schmid.de/index.php/karl-schmid), which says that he has done a lot of collaborative work with other glass artists. The signature on the comport seems to be in two different hands: The Schmid signature is quite different in style from the Jacquet signature.
