Please Help Identifying Uranuium Glass Flacon, 19th c?
« on: May 16, 2017, 07:25:49 AM »
Hi, I found this flacon (size without stopper 13, with stopper 18 cm). It is Uranium glass and has a polished concave bottom. I was thinking It could be French maybe? And how old would it be? I am not sure if the stopper is original as it does not fit perfectly and has the number 44 on it, which does not appear on the flacon itself, on the other hand it has the right colour and shape...
Thank you very much in advance,
Matthias

Your date is about right: late 19th C. It could be Bohemian  ???

Thank you Christine, yes, I guess Bohemia is a good possibility. What do you think about the stopper? Shape and colour fit perfectly, it sems just a bit big...
Regards,
Matthias

It's hard to tell - ? the polished base.  I did have a squared flacon that I think was French and think it was a similar colour.
The shape is a bit flouncy, reminds me more of French pieces for some reason. On the other hand the neck and the way it joins the body reminds me both of Loetz and Fritz Heckert pieces in a gourd shape.

The polished base doesn't automatically make me think Bohemian if it's possibly late 19th or even more mid 19th.
Is the base actually a very large slightly concave polished pontil mark that covers nearly the entire base? or is it flat ground off and flat polished right to the edges please?

This is a link to mine - the polished pontil mark was highly polished, but the photographed was angled to the light so it shows the polishing marks making it look as though it is not.
