Junk Find Composite Glass & Wire Ruby Vase
« on: June 05, 2017, 08:48:53 PM »
Hi guys, just checking in again with my latest trash find and hoping someone with might be able to shed some light on a possible ID. It's a rather classically shaped ruby red vase which appears to me to have been blown into a woven wire cage or framework. It's a technique I've not come across before but that's not surprising given that I really am still a total newbie in the art glass field.

The vase stands approximately 15.5" (400mm) tall and 6.75" (170mm) across the shoulders. Kinda looks Italian to me but I don't really know what I'm talking about lol and so far my web searches have drawn a total blank. Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Thanks

Nigel

I have seen something very similar recently with a made in China label  on the base, not that i'm saying this is Chinese, regards Chris.

Thanks Chris, maybe not what I was hoping to hear but glad to say it cost me all of nothing so nothing lost. It was the ground out pontil that lead me to think it could've been something a little more 'artisan' but guess possibly a false newbie assumption on my part. Still, it remains rather a decorative piece and displays well on a small corner table I have.

I think I'm in Ross's camp. Very tall, top heavy and irregular, matte pontil mark always make me consider China first

The one I saw was definitely wire, silver,  cut straight through the pontil, the rim edges were circular not trailed glass, I had not seen anything like it before.
