Help ID 2 Neoclassical Yellow Opaline Glass Vases
« on: June 18, 2017, 12:35:11 PM »
Help please to ID this pair of yellow opaline Neoclassical glass vases. My first thought was Bohemian or possibly French. But after a lot of searching through books and the internet I think there may be a chance that they are British.
I did find a rare pair of Richardson's decanters which looks very much like the same kind and colour of glass as these vases are. So maybe someone like Richardson may be a possibility , although I could be miles away.

The vases look like they could be quite special and look to be part hand painted enamel and part transfer.

Date could be as early as mid 19th century, polished pontil mark with quite a lot of wear. Even the bottom of the handles have be nicely polished.

I have tested under a UV light and they do not glow.
Height 5.5" or 14cm and they weigh 555gm and 580gm
Thanks for any help Roy

Today I had a top glass expert visit me .

He was quite excited about the vases and thought they were most likely English, made around 1850/51 and may have been made for the Great Exhibition 1851. They have been taken away for further research.

ooh thanks for updating.
I'd forgotten about these.
Do let us know what the outcome is please?  I am very curious given my small collection of pieces in a similar style :)
I am also curious to know about that large pontil mark.

Roy did you ever find out where these were made?  or at least what country?
