Vase with Pulled Rim ID Help
« on: July 09, 2017, 07:33:39 PM »
Hi All,

I picked up this vase at the car boot sale on Saturday and assumed it was Whitefriars due to the polished base but I can't see it anywhere in their catalogues. Anyone have any ideas? It's 25 cm or just under 10 inches with engraved flower to the front which is difficult to see in the pictures

Maybe Scandinavian, sorry being a bit vague here.

With a base like that I would say unlikely to be ZBS.

Hi John, when I first saw it I instantly thought Scandinavian too but then when I saw base I assumed Whitefriars. I'll have a look through the little literature I have on Scandi glass to see if I find any leads

Cheers!

Orrefors is a possibility, based on colour, base finishing and rim.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

if it was a case of guidance from some particular feature of this piece, I'd have thought it more likely that the colour, which could be thought of as sapphire, might be the reason for thinking W/Fs., rather than the base, which could be from any one of many makers who ground the outer area smooth with a central depression.          This one could be a tad pale for W/Fs sapphire, but it's not theirs anyway.

I'm sure I've seen this general shape on various things in recent times, but now forgotten from whence they originated, so many copies of shapes, but would agree with the thought that it's probably Scandi.     It does have a quality finished base,

Thanks for the input Paul & Della I will try Orrefors and other Scandinavian factories and let you know if I get anywhere.

Kind Regards, Adam

Very doubtful that it is Orrefors it would be clearly marked and I would expect the base to be flat.  Check out the Norwegian makers like Magnor and Hadeland as well.  Not Holmegaard either I should mention.

Hi Ross,

I came to that conclusion about Orrefors last night , Kosta seems more likely due to the way the base is finished but I'll try those suggestions too

Best, Adam

Hi. Is not it a Miloslav Klinger from Zelezny Brod Sklo. He made several vases with pulled rims and engravings: flowers and birds
Greetings (new in town) Nel
