Gosh, what an odd thing. What is the base like? Could you add a photo showing how the base is finished please, as that can also help with ID's. Welcome to the board also.

Thank you Anne for the question about the base. I will try tomorrow to add a photo of it, but I have to find out how first..

I had wondered if it was a sort of stirrup cup, (upside-down) but that thick rim would make it difficult to drink from. ;D
It's very unusual.

Welcome! :)

Is it solid or is it a hole in the base? I can't make it out.

Thank you for your interest Anne.
I will give some more details; The lower part is a hollow form. The upper part is solid. It (totally)  is 33 cm. high. The diameter in the lower part is 13 cm and the solid
piece has a diameter of 10,5 cm and is 5 cm thick. It weighs 2230 grams. There is no signature or number. I bought it for 27,50 euros, because it looked so strange to me and at the same time beautiful. Greetings Nel

Thanks Nel, it's good to have the extra info about this. It's much bigger than I'd imagined it to be...  I wonder if it was part of a light fitting? But then it's very heavy for that, and how would it fix on, and wouldn't it get too hot inside.... hmmmm. I'm thinking out loud here... and hoping that someone will come along who can add something more useful for you.
