Pink Holmegaard glass?
« on: August 16, 2017, 08:36:24 AM »
Hi there,

I have purchased the most beautiful soft pink glass vase and strongly suspect that it is Holmegaard. The shape and rim are so familiar. I've just never seen a pink piece of holmegaard before! Or this particular shape.

Could anyone help identify this for me?

Thank you so much!
Jess

Hi and welcome to the board Jess. That's a lovely colour for sure!  Could you please add a photo showing how the base is finished (we can tell a lot from them), and also add dimensions. I know you show a pen alongside it, but we prefer proper measurements really (inches or metric, or both if you want to be really helpful.) Thanks. :)
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Hi Anne, thank you so much. I have added two more photos.
Dimensions are: 16cm tall, the neck is just over 4cm, the base diameter is 7.5cm, the widest diameter is 12.5cm and the top/lip diameter is 9.5cm.
Thank you for your help :)

hi   -  cased opaque pieces are not uncommon from Holmegaard, along with many of the Scandi houses - the more well known Holmegaard pieces are probably the gulvases, but I can't see that this factory used pink - but who knows.              Shape wise this piece isn't too dissimilar to Holmegaard's pallet vase - a sort of decanter shape - although not sure they made them this small.           Could be worth a look though.

Hi Paul, thank you for your comments. I agree, it's very similar to the pallet vase, but not the same. When you say 'worth a look', could you direct me somewhere to research further?
Thanks again :)

hello Jess  -  regret to say I'm not a Scandi expert or even a semi-expert  -  so can't suggest anywhere specific for you to look.         My comment was only a generalization insofar as I was suggesting that you search any or all Scandinavian web sites and books for a possibly match or connection.             In past years the GMB membership included some very clever folk, some of whom were authors and very top end collectors - in this subject  -  sadly they are no more - at least on this Board.
I've exhausted my very limited books on Holmegaard material  -  I was never into Scandi in anything like a serious way  -  but am aware from past GMB members that there seem to be a vast array of books on the subject.              At my peak of glassy interest I had the thick end of something like ninety odd books on glass, and it was through these and visiting antiques fairs etc. that I learned much of what I know  -  it's a good way of learning, but can be expensive when it comes to some of the specialist books.

Sorry, can't help further  -  personally I don't think your piece is quite 'right', but remember always that there's nothing to stop you emailing or contacting these factories - assuming they're still extant - asking for their opinion.     Mostly they are very helpful. :)

Hi Jess,

Perhaps Peter Harder's website may be worth looking at, it has a fairly large number of Holmegaard items....

Thank you Paul and Greg :)

I've still not identified it but I'll keep trying. I really appreciate your guidance.
