2 new paperweights
« on: December 08, 2017, 02:03:00 PM »
Hello

I bought these two paperweights this week - I'm thinking they're Strathearn but I'm not sure.  What do you think?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Claire

For the first, we need a side picture.  If the canes stand proud ... rise above the surface of the ground, it is likely Vasart, if they are even with the surface of the ground, it is likely Strathearn.

The second seems to me to be an early Perthshire.  Can we see a side picture and also a picture of the base?

You have reversed the order of the two pictures, which is why the moderator often asks for separate posts for each item.

My opinion is that the first one in the original posting is Vasart.  I believe the second one is Perthshire.  I asked for a base picture of the second paperweight.

Thanks for your help.  The top picture here is the same paperweight as the one in the top picture above.
Sorry that this photo isn't great, it's difficult to photograph as it's dark coloured.

Thanks

Claire

Your top picture at the beginning of the post is the one that has orange canes on the outside.  That is the Vasart.

The other one (the second picture in your original post) is more finished and it is the one I thought might be Perthshire.  If your second base picture goes with the second paperweight in the original post, then I would revise my opinion and say that it is Strathearn.  I have not seen a Perthshire with such an unfinished base.

Thank you.  I'll definitely do separate posts next time.  Yes the second base is the same one as the second pic in the original post.  Thanks for your help.  I just buy what I like, but I'm always interested to learn more about them - How old do you think they are?  Thanks , Claire

Many of the glassworkers are the same in all three companies.

The Vasart name was used from (roughly) from the mid-1950s to 1963.  Strathearn Glass was formed in a reorganization of Vasart glass in 1963.  Some glassworkers left Strathearn to form Perthshire in 1968, but Strathearn also continued as a separate company until the 1980s.
