Topic: Azurene style vase with DSG mark

I came across this vase the other day. It is in the style of Isle of Wight Studio Glass 'Azurene', with applied gold leaf (no silver leaf) with DSG impressed into a prunt on the base. Perhaps SG = studio glass. The vase is 15 cm high and about 8.5 cm max diameter. Holding the vase up to the light shows a huge number of tiny bubbles.

I thought it would be easy to track this down on the web but no luck. Can anyone help out? Thanks.

Now that I look at it again there is silver leaf as well as gold.

looking at Ivo Haanstra's 'Glass Fact File booklet, he lists a DSG & Co. with the following comment  .........   'Trade name of De Steiger Glass Co.'

Could be worth a look.

De Steiger Glass Co was a bottle works in LaSalle, IL, ca. 1867-1896, so possibly not the right maker. There is an example of one of their bottles here: http://www.mrbottles.com/Gallery/6312PeterBinzelOconomowoc

This vase likely dates from the 1980s or 1990s since it copies the huge success that IOWSG had with Azurene from the late 1970s onward. It is clearly a studio piece, hence my guess that SG = studio glass.

Would it be worth trying to track down where Charlie Meaker went and what exactly he was doing inbetween IoWSG and directing Inferno glass in Denmark?
We do know he used this technique, as did Iestyn Davies at Stuart Strathearn.
Are there others who trained there at that time, and moved on too?
It doesn't look like Charlie Meaker's work, but I've only really seen the blue bits with clear strapping. I don't know what else he did.

I wonder if this vase is from the same maker, no mark on base, cut and polished rim, again gold and silver leaf.

Whilst I agree the likelihood of Dxxxx Studio Glass is very possible.  It would be inadvisable not to consider Dxxxx Sxxxxxxx Glass or even Sxxxxx Dxxxxxx Glass as possible makers.    For example  David Smallhouse is an ex Orient & Flume maker who could make this oh so easily.  An enquiry through his Facebook site might pay dividends.

Something else very useful that might help track somebody down is to find out what colour and texture of glass is used for the base.
