Signature Help, Please
« on: February 10, 2018, 05:37:24 PM »
I'm struggling with this one.  ???
When I first bought it, I thought is was Shaks, but that was then  :P .
Can anyone help, please?
Maybe someone recognises the artists work.
It's only a small piece. 80mm high & an opening diameter of 90mm.
TIA,
Della

reads as 'Shaks' 'Icy' 'La'
and does look like Will's work to me especially the shape (but not sure about the trailed rim (have found a lip wrapped item now), or indeed the shape of the foot - his feet are normally straight up and very beautifully formed (not that yours isn't beautifully formed but his are particularly so).
I'll have a search and see if I can find similar.

re the rim - apparently this jug was made by Will c.1997

Perhaps it is an LA studio piece though?

When I first bought it I thought of Will, but over the years I've had a few of his pieces and the 'K' , though sometimes confused with an 'R', is normally noticeable.
I've tried a search for LA, but Ive had no luck  :-\
I really appreciate you looking, M, as you seem to me to be awfully good with whichever search engine you use.  :-*

actually is it signed on the base?  American makers tend to sign on the side rather than the base iirc (could be wrong and probably not ALL of them, but that is what I recall).

maybe part of Will's Firework range is what I was thinking but perhaps it isn't his at all.

the feet on his goblets here look a bit similar
https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=1C1CHBD_en-GBGB719GB719&biw=1366&bih=662&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=Bot_WryNNKTegAb11K-oBw&q=will+shakspeare+signature+glass&oq=will+shakspeare+signature+glass&gs_l=psy-ab.3...221.221.0.858.1.1.0.0.0.0.160.160.0j1.1.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.nGDjPAt0Twg#imgrc=LcfyOc2-_xfsVM:

he is quite approachable and very lovely and perhaps if you email and ask him he might say whether or not it is one of his.
The lip wrap is actually putting me off as is the foot but having found two similar then maybe not.
He does make some unusual one off pieces.  I have one of my most treasured pieces from him that appears as a dichroic bowl because of the way it is made.  It is absolutely impeccably made and I truly love it and treasure it.

oh and he trailed the rim on some of the Syrian range here
https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17742.msg110045.html#msg110045

but I see what you mean about the sig not being like any of the others I've found so far.
It could be someone else in the studio signed it but it's a bit too different to the others I've seen so far.
my bowl is labelled but not signed and I can't get to my other pieces right now to check (I've just checked the one easily available and it is signed in caps as the others I've found online... mmm, signature on yours doesn't look right then)

Huge thanks, M, I will keep you posted.

This piece is made by Gerry Reilly of the Melting Pot Glass Studio in Margaret River, Western Australia (just south of Perth). The three lines of writing say G. Reilly, then probably a date year, then WA.

The two bowls in the attached image are a somewhat different shape, but show the design in your colourway and in yellow. There are a another couple of items in yellow from the same series shown on the Board here:
