Pallme-Koenig or Kralik/Ruckl Deco ?
« on: February 28, 2018, 12:07:27 PM »
Vase about 17 cm high, cased glass, red inside with clear outer layer, cold cut top. Unusual decor with trails of blue, cream, caramel brown, green and violet embedded onto the clear surface layer; no pontil.  I had assumed this was Pallme-Koenig but having second thoughts ! The shape suggests Kralik Deco or possibly Ruckl.  The trails of coloured glass are pressed into the clear outer layer such that you can still feel them.  Please help with identification. P.S. I am new to this forum.

Hi IsidorGluck, welcome to the Board.

Have you looked through http://kralik-glass.com for possible matches to the shape or decor? I had a quick look but could not find a match for the multi-coloured trails.

I did check Kralik-glass.com and found a couple of examples of similarly shaped pieces but no decor remotely like this one.

I'm going to have to correct myself here: examination under a strong back-light indicates the faint outline of a pontil mark. Not sure if this will help with attribution..?

The vase has been finished from the top and the strapping goes underneath, so there will be no pontil mark. It's very unlikely that this has been attached to anything other than a blowing iron. Any marks are cooling marks.

Have you checked it under a UV light? Rindskopf might be an option

This vase is not UV reactive.

Still seeking help in identifying the maker of this vase !  I would add that there is ingrained dirt inside at the bottom around the edges suggesting this vase is almost certainly pre-WW2.

Ingrained dirt is not an indicator of age, as you'd realise if you'd been to some of the more scabby fleamarkets I have been to. You are most likely right about the date though
