Unknown uranium glass compote, please help ID!
« on: March 11, 2018, 07:18:53 PM »
I stumbled onto these forums while trying to identify this piece.   I have been trying to identify this for months but have been unable to so far.  The most confounding part for me is the mark on the bottom, '65.'  The mark seems like it would be easy to ID but that has come up empty as well.  This is my favorite piece of glass in my collection and I would love to know who made it and when.  I am off to go explore some of these threads, I love looking and learning from other peoples glass.

Just as well you did a very patient bump. I didn't see this before. :)
I don't know much about this sort of area, but did have occasion to try to id a pressed glass plate with a heat crimped edge, and got fantastic help from a member here, Pamela Wiessendorf, who runs a wonderful and comprehenesive website on pressed glass.

I'm sure you'll enjoy having a look around in it, and you may find something to help.
Good luck.  :)

I'm thinking that may be a decimal point between the 6 and the 5. It's not by any chance a 6.5" bowl?

The compote is just under 5" high and 9" across the top.

Have you tried the www.replacements.com website? The problem is they have over 5,000 examples of glass compote.

I have tried replacements.com, various glass groups that specialize in glass from particular areas of the world, and many online glass databases.

I have spent so much time looking at it, it has become my favorite piece  ;D

:) Given it is pressed glass, moulds must have been made to create it. Moulds are expensive to produce.
When a piece of pressed glass turns up we can't identify and have seen few examples of previously, you start to suspect it might be of Bohemian origins. They had the big factories which were able to make loads of different moulds, as there were not the same restrictions on finances on their side of the Iron Curtain. The arts and culture were more strongly supported.
