Sklo Union bowl help with designer, glassworks, date etc
« on: May 12, 2018, 04:08:14 PM »
Hi All

I bought the bowl, in the photographs attached, about a month ago and have been try to identify it ever since, without success.

I found one stock photograph on the internet which identified it as Sklo Union (which helps with the date) but there was no more information.

The bowl is about 22 cm in diameter and 8 cm tall. The primary design is taken throughout the bowl, including the base, so it is a real beauty.

Any help identifying designer, glassworks, date etc would be fantastic.

Designed by Miroslav Kubinec & made at Hermanova Hut, Pattern No. 20340. See page 113 of the book : Sklo Union, Art before Industry ...., by Marcus Newhall.

Thank you very much - fantastic. The book sounds good - is it a good reference for Czech pressed glass? - is it worth buying?

Relative to many of the people here I'm a newcomer in the field of Czech pressed glass. But during the last 18 months or so, since I started collecting, I have found the book to be extremely useful. I make extensive use of the CD which accompanies the book. It includes a dozen or so catalogues from the main Czech factories involved in the production of pressed glass.

Hi John

Like you I'm a beginner in the field of Czech glass but there are some fantastic pieces of glass and the book sounds like a worthwhile investment.

Thank you again for your time.
