Hi All

Really need help with this one because I really don't know where to start.

All I can tell you is that I bought it online in the Czech republic.

The vase has a bubble texture and the body of the vase is blue and amber glass. Applied on the outside are random white glass dots and what would appear to be gold. The top of the vase has been ground and polished with the edges beveled. The bubble texture continues to the base and there is a distinct cross on the base ( see photo)

The vase is 20 cm tall and 8 cm diameter at the top and 9 cm diameter at the bottom. The glass is 1 cm thick.

Beautiful and unusual but where does it come from, designer, date and manufacturer ? All unknown.

Thank you.

I don't know if it helps but the general shape of the vase and its bubble texture reminded me of Rosice Pattern No. 974.

Hi John

Thank you for your response.

Like you don't know if it helps but your are right there are a lot of similarities. I will investigate further.

Hope this may help other to identify my vase.

Reading in Mark Hills book 'Sklo' today it describes two identifying factors for Borske Sklo optical blown vases - one is machine cut and polished rim and the second is an impressed cross on the base from the four part moulds.

This vase has both these features does anyone recognise this as a Borske Sklo vase ?

Sorry this is a really late reply.  But it looks as though it's been made with silver chloride and not cased.  I think it looks too thick to be a Borske Sklo bubble vase possibly.
Hopefully someone will be along who can help more.

It might be from this company:

Unfortunately the vase that had most similarities with yours isn't coming up to view:

SE16 is the code for the one I thought had similarities

I am not seeing anything that looks like silver chloride, m.
Or nitrate. Silver salt effects are something I have a bit of a big thing about. ???
And i can't see a bigger image in that link to see if I can work out if there are any there. :'(

Sue, you know much more than me on this subject.  I just thought the perceived effect was similar.

I know ... it's very annoying that the pictures don't enlarge to any degree where the decor can be seen properly and that that particular one isn't available to view on a click.
Anyway, it was just a thought and a possible avenue to explore.

It's not similar enough to be silver salts... in my personal opinion and from what I can make out. :)

It is a difficult one. I want it to be Svobodova Galaxy from the thumbnails, but it's clearly not.  ::)
It looks a lot lighter in weight than something like that as well as being quite different in close up.

maybe not as thick as that Sue but it's still 1cm thick at the rim and looks quite 'hefty', especially when thinking about my Borske Sklo vase which I definitely didn't think was hefty at all.
