Topic: Ribbed Engraved Bird Vase ID

Hi all,

Any ideas on the ID of this vase please, I’m assuming that it’s Scandinavian, but I’m no expert. It stands at just over 4” inches tall, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Possibly Orrefors   It looks like Edward Hald's bird of paradise vase, but not sure about the shape.  He signed his with the letter H.     
Hopefully someone will know for sure.

Thanks Anne, looks like it is definitely the bird of paradise, but still no idea what the signature says.

Something along the lines: first letters o and f, abbreviated version of Orrefors. Then H for designer Hald and pattern number (maybe) 8211. The following squiggles are probably the engravers signature.

It is Orrefors H2245 from 1940.
H=Hald

If you can get better image of the letters at right, it will say A or B something and a number, thats the real year of production

Just out of interest, in Scandinavia, is "bird of paradise" another name for the Phoenix?

The bird, with its long swan-type neck and fiery crest is very much Phoenix-like and "birds of paradise" as I know them do not have those features.

Thank you Jonas,

I have tried to take a better photo of the signature and also a picture next to a similar vase or toothpick holder which stands only 2.5” inches tall (no signature). I was planning to sell, but they go so well together I think I will just have to hang on to them for a little bit longer.  Any info on the second vase/toothpick holder would also be much appreciated.
