Nice Large Hot-Worked Veined Vase Maybe Italian Art Glass..
« on: December 05, 2018, 07:03:47 PM »
Got this nice heavy piece today it was covered in muck and need's a lot of cleaning the base has a nicely polished pontil scar on a polished base there is quite a bit of wear from general use not heavy wear but plenty of light movement marks remind's me of some Italian or Czech Art Glass but haven't a clue which maybe somebody else will know. It measures 13" approx and is about 3 kg in weight. Thank you for looking. :)

I was curious about the base, thanks for the extra pics.  :)
I really think this is recent Chinese. Heavy things can develop age-related wear very quickly and just a couple of years can produce a lot of muck and dust.
Anything large, heavy and colourful should provoke a suspicion of modern Chinese.
It's a good idea to keep an eye on what is for sale in outlets such as TKMaxx.
A lot of it ends up on stands in fairs. ;)

Lots of it is very nice - and you can use it without worrying about it.
I have a few very large bits I use as wastepaper baskets. I can colour co-ordinate them with the rooms they're in.
I would expect the execution of the internal decoration.strapping bits to be of better quality, if it was Italian.
The base may have a round polished pontil scar, but it's not polished to a high shine - you can still see lines. This is much more common to find on Chinese glass now than the previous very rough finish we used to see.

But the lovely thing about glass, is that a good bit of glass is always a good bit of glass, no matter who made it or where or when.
It is a unique piece of work. ;D
