Topic: Very heavy cased Whitefriars style vase - ID?

Hi

It would be great if you could help with this vase. It has some Whitefriars characteristics - the lobed/ molar bottom and the polished concave pontil, but I don't recognise the shape. Beyond some very vague hunches I'm struggling to come up with an alternative.

It is very heavy, cased glass. 6 and 3/4 inches in height or 17 cm. The bottom has quite a lot of wear so seems to be of a decent age.

Feel free to speculate wildly as I'm at a bit of a dead end!

Whitefriars made lamp bases in that style but taller, seen one of these in red:

The flex hung down from the fitting so there was not a hole in the base, just that variation in height really...

I think you're right it could be a lamp base, but although it fits in with a general Whitefriars style, I can't find anything much like it.

Still keeping yours in mind while searching for my lamp bases.....the answer will turn up even if it takes years!

Taller than yours but they were made in a variety of sizes, various sized examples can be found looking on line, the colour matches, the base matches, the lobes are the same, the necks are the same (your collar is missing). Lighting was not included in many companies catalogues and is generally notoriously tricky to identify. Chances are yours is Whitefriars.
