first request for ID, trying to follow guidance. don't know if i'm in for a harsh lesson or nice surprise.

height & diameter > 15cm
width rim > 5cm
width base > 6cm
girth (circumference?) 55cm, i think.
weight > 5kg

suspect polished rim, although blead from red to white casing not crisp a delineation as i'd hope, maybe.

appears to be polished off on base. there are signs of wear to hint at age there on base also. paper label there too, see pictures. one or two tiny air bubbles within crystal body. red may either fades out a little or simply appears to alter due to distance from crystal outer and way light is moving through it. suspect control of dimensions indicates mould blown.

not enough clear signs of a very individual design for me to locate anything by googling around; yet. can't determine age, but enough suspicions to worth the bargain price. any help appreciated.

i’m still looking myself for an ID. suspect that it’s a murano sommerso ball vase or similar at least. can find one or two that look similar, but aren translucent rather than having a white inner layer.

one i’ve seen is given as precisely the same dimensions, similar weight; historical ebay listing. problem remains how indistinct the design is in shape, and defining characteristics point to lots of other shapes and makers doing sommerso pieces.

also little put off about the finish on the white layer blending into edge of the red, which isn’t as clean as i’d imagine from sculptural glass.

notice a lots of ID requests don’t get answered here. although it’s never certain to happen, is there somewhere else i can ask for assistance? thanks.

Hello and welcome.

Lots of requests do get answered here.....sometimes it's quick......sometimes not.  I have had answers seven years later, and seen some that took ten or more before the key information became available.  We usually just enjoy our mystery pieces while we wait, and try to help other members with theirs.

I use Google images, 20thcenturyglass website , and lots and lots of books.

thanks, cat. i’m quite adept with google images, but having trouble with this one as it is an indistinct or generic shape. found one or two similar, but nothing clearly correct yet. i’ve posted the same info as above to 20thcglass facebook page, as they and you suggest.

i found a piece of mandruzzato in a charity shop earlier this year, took me a few minutes to identify it with google images - had never seen or heard of it until before buying it at £8 - and lucked out as it’s got no dings on it, as often seems to be the case with the faceted ones.

found one on some sort of instagram variant, possibly a photo from a shop in sydney.

the URL of the image supplied by google just redirects, and linking into the page from the image just goes to a general search of a hashtag and hasn’t lead further yet.
