Topic: Panel cut beaker - gold and enameled base

Hi, a 10 cm tall paneled beaker with gilt base and a shamrock enameled within it.  I have three others, two with purple flowers and one with a pig in the bottom of the glass.  Most of the collection in which this came was mid-European (Austria/Germany/Bohemia) if that helps.

Well spotted!  It is very similar but zwischengold (as I am sure you know)  is where a layer of gold appears between two layers of glass (zwischen = between) whereas my tumbler (and I suspect the one in the link you provided) has a layer of gold/gilt to the base and enamel to the inside of the bottom.  Or so I think.  I actually don't have the glass in hand and am researching it for a US customer.   It certainly looks like the same glass.  Thanks so much.

I think you might find that the decoration is protected by a gilded glass disc at the base.

Hello, thank you for your continued interest in this glass.  I had found the site you referred to and am not sure it is Zwishengold.  I do think that the base has been enameled and then the bottom gilded to show up the enameling better.  It's so difficult to find the manufacturers of these mid-European glasses and I really appreciate the help.  Best wishes, Neil

I'd say that is very different to your glass   Look at the way the internal wall is made.
It might be a later example so worth exploring though.

But we would need a more robust reference anyway really for identification rather than attribution.

There is another on here (I think an older version similar internal wall shape to yours) under a thread entitled Zwischengold glass.

If you look on there you will see Ivo said he has one with a Czech politician in it. He dated it to c.1860.
