Topic: Heavy Red Abstract Design Vase, ID Help?

Hi, I spotted this vase in my local thrift store earlier this week… I like the design and it feels like quality (it's very heavy for its size, approx. 22 inches tall). Does it look likely to be Italian made (modern), or maybe Czech? There is no label or signature that I could see from a quick look.

Would it make an interesting purchase from a ‘collectible’ perspective? It's not that cheap for a charity shop!

Looks very much like it was made in China.

Agreed. 
It really, really does look contemporary Chinese. 
The applied black rim is thick and wonky; it's big and heavy and unbalanced; the decor is not well arranged and that bright orangey-red is another strong clue.

Hey Guys... just been back to the shop and reserved for 24 hrs. So... the lady in the shop said the person who dropped it off is a “very well-respected collector, quite rich and well known in upper class circles” (<whatever that means, hah). He quite often donates objects to the shop... which apparently are always a bit special compared to a lot of their tat. 

Perhaps he bought this as a genuine piece and later figured out he was duped – hence the donation. haha.

I strongly suspect your last suspicion is the correct one.
Somebody got fooled by it and subsequently donated it.
These have been for sale in TKMaxx for a good number of years and do frequently turn up on "antique" stands in fairs, boot sales etc.
Some are good enough to fool - but that's just the luck of the draw.

The Oxfam I give stuff to always says I hand in great stuff too. 
It's all just stuff I've decided is second rate and don't want any more. But if it was good enough for me to have bought in the first place, it will sell again.
They did get a good few bits I'd got in TKMaxx and just enjoyed for a short while, until I needed the space.

So glad I posted now...you guys are fantatsic. I promised my 16 year old daughter I wouldn't buy any more stuff this week and you just helped me keep that promise!

Glass is a learning process - without all the "rubbish" I've bought and studied, (then given back to charity shops) I wouldn't understand what makes something good or not, nearly so well.
You have to handle it and turn it around in different lights to get a proper feel for it.

But a nice piece of glass will always be a nice piece of glass - no matter who made it, or when it was made, or where. 
Things that are not "collectable" may still have decorative value - to somebody.
