Pair of millefiori door knobs.
« on: September 18, 2019, 03:04:31 PM »
Are these Pirelli Glass by any chance?  The excellent Scotland's Glass website show similar ones described as Pirelli Glass - Vasart reseller (1959).
Mine came as a pair in what might be their original box.  However the box has a barcode underneath which if original to the contents, dates them any time back to the late 70s when barcodes were introduced in the U.K. I think.  The light blue one has RC2023 impressed on the underside of the metal and is slightly larger, and heavier than the other.
Haven't a clue who actually made them and just thought Scottish when I first saw them, without knowing anything about these objects.
TIA :)

I think you're absolutely on the right track. I just don't know enough to say exactly which bit of it.
Lovely things, with a bit of age, I think. :)
Not as recent as Perthshire, sticking my neck out a little bit.  ;D

Left is Strathearn for sure. Right might be Perthshire but not certain, a photo on it's own might help.

Some Strathearns: https://strathearn.smugmug.com/Strathearn-Paperweights/DK1-Doorknob-Millefiori-P8/

Mmm, Left could be Vasart as well... Not for sure at all now!

I have these two as Strathearn, pretty sure they also had RC2023 on the metal.

I really should have checked further....

This one I have as Vasart and it does have RC2023 on the metal. Ho hum...

I'm now pondering.

Did Vasart "keep" the good strong colours for doorknobs, in any sort of conscious way?
They do seem to contain a lot of them, compared to their normal very limited (by circumstances, not choice) pastel-y sort of output.

Doesn't look quite right for Perthshire to me, suspect it is Strathearn.
