Topic: Unknown Czech Vase

New member not posted before but been collecting for a while
I bought this piece at Newark Antiques fair in the 90s when I was not so serious/obsessed
I have never been able to identify the author
I believe it is Skrdlovice late period
It has a vibra pen signature but it hasn't helped me so far
Wondered if anyone can help
The pen drawing is my copy of the signature as it is impossible to get a decent picture

Could your mark read Hlava?
What a stunning piece - not something everyday, I don't think. Possibly a special "Unikat" piece?

Looking at the reproduction of Pavel Hlava's signature in Mark Hill's book, it looks sufficiently unlike this one to suggest they aren't one and the same, but perhaps we all have an off-day when signing.           Regret I'm unable to offer alternative maker/designer.            Apparently few Czechoslovakian pieces are signed - some show recognizable lettering and others might be almost anyone's signature.
What makes you suggest Skrdloviche late period?

i have two Hlava pieces, later Unikat style ones, one has a couple of scabby left-over labels on, no marks at all; the other is etched Ceska and has HLAVA written in capital letters by hand with some vibrating tool.
The "Hlava" is not a signature, just an indication of the designer.
But I don't know enough about other names to make any suggestions. I just felt it's a really big and unique sort of pieece and the reproduction of the mark could have included the letters of Hlava's name, and he did do unique designs.
As I said, other folk will know more than I do.

The reason I believe it is Skrdlovice is because it was bought with these two pieces which I now know more about from the same seller
A J Beranek 1980's signed vase pattern no. 8044 and an Oliva signed paperweight pattern 8815 both of which are in the Skrdlovice pattern books
At the time I did not know a lot I just bought then because I liked them
Since then I have collected more and tried to learn more.

I also cannot link the signature to Hlava though I would love it if it was

I did email Mark Hill but he did not know he thought Robert Bevan Jones would know if anyone but I have not tried to contact him yet
Also the wonderful Jiri Viehmann has not pinned it down as of yet

Your vase is not illustrated in Robert and Jindrich's book, edited by Mark, (I have checked!) but Robert is a member here. I've not seen him or Jindrich around for some time though.

Hi Bertie...   what a great vase.  It was designed in 1996 by Zdenek Kominek and produced by Beranek glassworks as pattern 9609.

Thank you for the information not an artist I had heard of though a search does give his name in a Beranek catalogue
Where can I get some further info on Mr. Kominek?
I have down loaded the pattern books but only go up to 1991 I believe some were lost
Have you any pictures or anything I could add to my records as conformation

What a great tool as well very useful never seen it before
Its made my day that I can put a name to the vase its one I will always keep as it was one of my first and it means a lot to me
I would love to have the tall vase to go with it
I have another very different piece I need identifying which I will post later then I think I have the info for all my pieces
