"stalactite-like" detail within this solid glass lamp base

I did not notice this detail when I bought this pretty little lamp  ;D

inside the glass there appears to be almost a separate piece of glass hanging, it is like a long drip of syrup or ??

was this detail intentional or does it just happen during the process of making this type of glass shape?

not sure if the photos show it clearly enough but the tip is sort of silver and it seems it is +/- 4 inches long or so
