This really justifies the space it occupies. :-)
It's good when you can combine a really fabby bit of glass with something practical.

You do need to find a good and proper shade for it to set it off sympathetically.
I know you and Linda have considerable artistic talents - have the two of you thought about designing and making your own lampshade for it?
Basic frames can be bought, (or they certainly could be in the '70s.

Or even looking for a good basic shape in a charity shop and re-doing it?
Lampshades are a nightmare. Very few are well designed.
I think this base needs a shade which has oriental inspiration.
