Possible Cello Vase?
« on: November 29, 2019, 02:28:03 PM »
Hello,

I recently purchased these 2 vases, however, there are no makers marks, stickers etc. I have been trying to do a bit of research and I have found some similar online made by an Italian company called Cello. However, none of this size and these seem quite a bit more intricately styled, so I was wondering if anyone might offer some input on makers etc?

They are 60cm high & very weighty thick glass.

Thanks

The pattern in the bottom pic looks like the output of a contemporary company called Makora.
It's a bit harder to make out in the other pics because the light is coming through the glass rather than reflecting off it, which is changing the colours and making them very yellow.

Hi,

Thanks for the really quick response!

I have just taken a look at Makora, and I can see what you mean. That's really useful thanks!!

Yes, I see what you mean - it is a kind of light beige with black , although the top part of the flower shown in the 1st photo is pretty accurate, it is more yellowy/beige than the base - which is more light creamy beige.

regret I'm entirely unknowledgeable as to maker or origin, but would assume -which you may of course know already - that stylistically this is a jack-in-the-pulpit vase - a shape taken from a wild plant that was believed to have medicinal powers  -  now known to be poisonous apparently.
The shape of this top may have something to do with the calla lilly, but don't quote me -  apparently Cello did use that flower for inspiration it seems:)
