Light green bowl with prunts id help please.
« on: November 30, 2019, 09:11:40 AM »

Hi, any help in identifying this one greatly appreciated.

Looks as if it’s been free blown.
Folded rim and foot- its rim is uneven in thickness and has a small raised bit presumably left by the glassblower.
There are a few bubbles and impurities in the glass.
   Has a snapped-off pontil mark.

   Has heavy base wear.

Please disregard its colour in the photos - I see it as a light green  :o

    Ht  17cm ( 6.5” )
    Diam of bowl  19.5cm  ( 7.75” )

    Many thanks for looking  :)

    Scott

Hi, thought I’d add that if you tap it, it does ring - and that its walls aren’t thick  ::)
  Thanks

 Scott

I was going to suggest possibly Italian/Murano in view of the folding on foot rim and top rim - but I'm puzzled slightly by the very crude prunts  -  there's a lack of any strawberry appearance or other impression to them - they appear as simply rough blobs stuck to the pedestal/column/foot.            Am I not seeing properly Scott.

Fingers crossed someone will have some proper information or suggestions for you.

   Hi,

I think the prunts were probably made to a predetermined shape - impossible to see from the photos I sent.
I’ve now sent a photo of one of them ( the other two are essentially the same) to illustrate what I mean- a sort of three sided pointed finish - definitely not the strawberry pattern - or a shapeless blob  ;D

Yes I think it could be Empoli verde - right colour, and broken-off pontil marks and folded rims seem to have been used fairly frequently- as well as prunts of course.
I’ll have to see if I can find a match ...........
Many thanks for your replies  :)

Italy does look likely, the construction reminded me of this purple MVM Cappellin goblet.

Along similar lines a bowl: https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/29861598-mvm-cappellin-ribbed-elevation-glass-amethyst

long time back I did have a piece of MVM Cappellin - it did have a backstamp, albeit difficult to see, and from memory the glass was very thin.

Agree the prunts are an unusual design  -  regret I didn't see that in fact they do have a particular pointed shape :)

  Hi,
My fault Paul - should have sent better photos.........

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of MVM Cappellin John - I can see why you have.
I’d love to think I had an old Murano piece, but obviously I mustn’t get carried away - well not yet anyway  :)

  Hi,
Another photo - won’t make it any easier to establish its identity I suspect, but at least I’ve got its colour
  about right this time  :)
