Erich Suto - Japanese glass artist/designer
« on: April 21, 2020, 02:29:43 AM »
is anyone familiar with the work of Erich Suto? He worked with the  Kamei America Group Inc. and possibly directly with some American galleries, for instance TOPEO of Greenwich Village, NYC. Some of his signature pieces were black glass vases with applied red or white stripes. His work is still fairly common, signed both long hand and with an acid etched signature. I assume that he was living and working in Japan since his glass was exported by Kamei. I can find no information at all about him except for examples of his work. I have a vase by him with a Jordan Marsh price tag, so he was active before 1996 when JM went out of business and before TOPEO moved from NYC to PA. His work is often described as "Mid-Century" suggesting the he was active in the 1950s-1960s. I am not sure if he was a glass artist or designer, or both. I have found similar examples of some of his vases. Thanks!
Glass mutt. I collect anything I like & find interesting & is of reasonable quality.
