Hello Glassaholics

I love glass and can't stop buying it! I hope you will be able to help me identify the maker / country of my latest purchase from a charity shop paying £8.00 which I thought was a bargain.

The vase is hand blown cased glass - white/ light lime/ clear - with a wonderful swirl pattern. it has a ground pontil to the base. No signatures or makers marks but feels a quality art glass piece. Measuring 40cm high x 24cm diameter x 9cm diameter at top rim and 15cm diameter at base, weighing 2.726 Kg. The base is slightly concave with no wear to the outter edges so I am not sure if it is a modern piece. The previous owner could of been very careful moving the vase around.

I have attached 4 photographs in the hope that someone may be able to identify this beautiful vase. Thank you in advance for any pointers you may be able to give me. I really appriciate your wonderful site full of items that i can only dream of.

Thanks again

Gary

Contemporary Chinese glass. They are getting very good. :)
Large, heavy, colourful with a roughly ground, non-round pontil mark.
(And the design going a bit squee-whiff around the bottom. ;) )

Personally, I do not look down on contemporary Chinese glass at all although some purists might. You can see it isn't particularly well finished at the rim either, but you have to go looking for it.
An attractive piece of glass is an attractive bit of glass, no matter where it was made or who made it. It was well worth your £8.  ;D
You can use it without worrying too much about it too. :)
