Green Bubble Glass Bottles/Vases.
« on: October 31, 2020, 12:29:45 PM »
I don't know if these are bottles or vases. They are 8" tall, olive green, with hundreds of large and small bubbles. The pontils appear to have been sheared off and snapped. I think they contain uranium and not just manganese as they do glow well under UV and also register on my Geiger counter. They appear to be crudely made but I'm hoping they've been designed to look that way. There is a lot of age wear on the bottoms but it would be a guess to say what age they are.

I'm going to throw in the theory that these were made by one of the glass factories in Biot, Provence, France. A lot of more refined bubble glass was produced in the town particularly by La Verrerie de Biot from 1956 onwards, but I think these are earlier.

yep I'd go with Biot as something to research on those because of the dispersal and varying size of the bubbles.
Your searches may turn up an earlier catalogue or similar pieces.  But until then it's just an attribution I guess.

I'm sure I put a blue bowl on here that had bubbles just like the left hand one.  OH I've found it. The bubbles are more watery than those in yours those:

I found a signed one of these so it's definitely Biot

Thanks flying free, here's a link to a post of a tankard which has a similar sort of look as my bottles, unfortunately Ivo gives a list of possible makers.      https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=3649.0.

I've also found this carafe with similar large bubbles. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/dining-entertaining/pitchers/carafe-blown-glass-biot-circa-1950-1960/id-f_10961581/
