Large Speckled Green in Clear Hand Blown Bucket Vase
« on: December 07, 2020, 12:26:32 PM »
Large heavy vintage looking vase has a large concave pontil. The glass is thick clear bubbly with green speckles. Also has an optical blown pattern.

9 and 7/8ths inches tall, 6 an 1/8th inches rim, 4 and 3/4 inches base.

Nice vase . Just a thought, the few pieces Nazeing i have seem to have a clearish looking base when viewed from above.
It does not seem to carry the main colour to the base.
That said, the base on your vase has a nice big polished pontil mark which i am not sure is typical for Nazeing.
Check out Nazeing vases on google images.

I'm confused by the mould marks on the base around the polished pontil scar. ???

Not Nazeing, although first appearances in thumbnails are similar.
Nazeing has very specific bubbles, the sort created by the addition of Sodium bicarbonate, which results in a halo of solid colour around a bubble. This just has small particles of enamel either marvered in or added to, the surface.

The other marks on the base did puzzle me as well, i thought they might be caused by the cooling down process?
I think this has been talked about recently on GMB.
These bubble vases are tricky to identify.

I think the marks on the base are from the optic moulding like my bowl shown below and in reply #6 in the original post here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,69295.0.html

It might be worth adding a photo showing the moulding as it’s hard to see. I now tend to assume this quite large and sturdy optic moulded stuff with polished pontil is Czech - if no one recognises it as something else.

If you look closely at enlarged images, there are no bubbles.
It just looks as if it should have them.  ???

Yes ive seen similar base patterns on some empoli mould blown optical pieces and some murano - mainly salviati ruby or the like bowls. The optical pattern that is fomed on this is no intricate design like diamond/lattice type or air trap but just a uniform bumped pattern not quite bulls eye or coin dot but just bumps and if you blink youd miss it but handling you can feel it and it does add texture to a fairly simple bucket form design. Yes at first i thought this must be Nazeing but unsure as ive not seen Nazeing like this as its fairly transparent not cloudy/opaque. Thanks for the interrest so far anyway
