Gauge Glass
« on: February 03, 2021, 09:52:06 AM »
I have come across a few Gauge Glasses when renovating an old Farmhouse.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on them, I've searched all over and can't find much on them.

They are made by:

J. TOMEY & SONS, Ltd
"Eureka" Gauge Glassess
Est 1853

Thanks

Yes I have seen that cheers.

They use to repair steam engines at the Farm so I assumed they were something to do with that.

I was actually going to use them to make a insect hotel with my daughter but thought if they had historical interest I did want to waste like that.

Here is a page from a general hardware catalogue (my personal copy) showing gauge glasses supplied by Baxendales of Manchester

;D They would make a marvellous insect hotel.
You would not need to damage them to do that, surely. They are "working" glass.
