Topic: Two unidentified millefiori paperweights - possibly American

Hello all,

I've come across these two paperweights and after some considerable internet research I've hit a dead end. The example with the red and green torsade reminds me of St Louis in colours, but I am unaware of any French makers that made weights with rose canes which contain bubbles like this. I suspect it is American - the bubbles remind me of New England poinsettia weights but I don't think New England made rose canes. I have come across some attributed to Cape Cod which have similar rose canes, but none quite like this.

The second weight I also suspect to be American, perhaps New England, but again I've hit a dead end. The canes are not exactly the most distinctive but I'm sure this colour combination must have been used by one of the American makers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Artsdufeu, welcome to the Board.

Please make a new thread for the weight in the 3rd pic. Having different items in an ID request can end up very complicated if there are lots of replies for each item.

Also, your images are not large enough to see the details of some canes. The Board requires a maximum filesize of 124kb per image. If you resize to about 700 pixel for the longest side the kb limit should be ok. See also: TECHIE TIPS: Resizing images to fit the board.

Love the first one, not sure who made it but would have loved to found it myself.  Your second one would be old english.  I'm not sure I can narrow it down any better than that.

The first one is actually quite rare. It was made by Friedrich Egermann circa 1845-1850. I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection.

That's very interesting. Do you have a reference source for further reading please?
I've come across Egermann exhibiting paperweights in the early 1800s but had wondered if they were produced at Harrach and were Lithyalin.
