Hello, I just picked up this candle holder which has a signature on the base. The pontil is rough, and the green is remnant of a bit of something someone has put over the pontil. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Will try and get a better shot of the signature. Thank you :)

:) it looks a bit like a replica of Georgian glass with the domed foot and snapped pontil and it looks like it might have a folded foot too. I had a quick look in my books but couldn’t see a similar Georgian candle holder with handle (chamber stick?), plus the handle would be applied the other way around (top down) so maybe it’s ‘influenced’ by Georgian design.

That's interesting to know, thank you :) I will have a look at Georgian designs and Anthony Stern's work as I'm not familiar with him. I had wondered if the domed foot meant it could be used as a 2 sided piece, with pillar candles sitting in the base / bottom section.

I suppose you can use it how you like ;D but I think it’s intended to be the way round that you’ve shown it, the handle would look upside down if it was the other way up.

I think you're right :) The candle would probably be a bit wobbly at that end!
