Davidson Glass Salad Servers
« on: August 07, 2021, 02:51:37 PM »
Greetings from Downunder!

I have a pair of 8" salad servers (8.2" actually), in a smoke grey colour which I presume to be by Davidson, but because of the colour, I'm unsure.  They are just coloured glass and not cloud glass.  Can anyone on the Board throw any light as to how many colours Davidson used with salad servers, or should I be looking for a different maker?  Did they manufacture a smoke/grey set?

Many thanks,
Barry

Davidson did use a smoke colour in the 1960s but it didn't have the hint of green these have

Thanks for the information, Christine.

Looking at the servers in the flesh there isn't a hint of green, just smoke grey. (Probably there is some digital intervention with the photo)!

I would assume from your comments that they would be Davidson from the 1960's in smoke grey.

Thank you again for your help.

Love your website!

Kind regards
Barry

They appear to be the same pattern as the ones on P15. of this 1940 catalogue but as you say probably later in date.

Thanks for your input NevB.

My wife & I have them in flint as well. They are in the '31 & '40 catalogues but you never know what glass colours are involved.  Actually, my wife is an avid collector of glass salad servers of all colours from UK. USA & Europe.  I might suggest she has the biggest collection in Australia. if not the world!!!  Not to mention the knife rests and swizzle sticks . . . LOL!

Kind regards,
Barry

Yes, they're nice, with a fierce glow under UV.  We have them too and call them "the back scratcher set"!  Good for serving spaghetti too!  Very versatile!  B

Hi Christine.  Unfortunately, Judy doesn't have an online presence with her salad servers.  But you have given me a thought!  She has suggested I organise a display cabinet and I have been recalcitrant in doing this for many years now.  A more 21st Century way of displaying would be via an internet site.  I will look into the logistics of doing this in the near future.  In the meantime I will do a little photography and email some pics to your LustrousStone address.  There is a bit of time involved with the photography but I will be back to you in the near future!

Many thanks for the "prod"!

Kind regards
Barry

Thank you but no need to send me pics. I was just trying to identify some of mine. I have a lot of my glass documented online but it's always a work in progress: I've been going through any checking and improving these last few days. My website is given in my signature
