Caithness Pointsettia second
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:36:04 AM »
I recently purchased a Caithness second which I have since found out is a Mini Poinsettia.  The ones I have found in my research all have a faceted top whereas the top of mine is round.  I presume it wasn’t faceted because it was a second, am I right in that assumption.  It is a beautiful weight, I am really pleased with it, it is hard to see why it is a second.

A couple of photos would be helpful.  A general tabletop view, and a carefully focused base view taken from a little to one side.

Hi welcome to the board, yes once it was realised it had gone wrong they would not spend additional time and money carrying on with it, it would be sold as is as a second. As Ross says without seeing it it's not possible to say why it was classed as a second.

Sorry, I posted the original message from my Ipad this morning and didn't have access to my photos - hoping this works  ::)

:) There's a little air bubble on a petal, that would be quite enough for it to be deemed a second. I don't know if it's the photo or reality, but some of the canes look a little squashed/squint, and they do not seem to be in quite a perfect circle.
A very tiny, minor flaw is enough for Caithness to deem something a second.

I see the bubble clearly on the photo, its not so obvious when looking at the weight itself. Thank you all for your input - it is a really pretty little weight 😁

Interesting that it does not have the C][G marking on the base.  Nor is there any engraving.

:) If you want to bring a mark up for photographing, rub a little talcum powder over it with your thumb. (cornflour, cocoa or cinnamon also work)
