Amethyst crackle glass jug?
« on: September 22, 2021, 01:27:38 PM »
Hi, do I need some tissue paper !!😂👍, finished early today and stopped off at an old haunt and was pleasantly surprised to find this 16cm high jug with Deepish crackle and a polished pontil. It looks like a piece from a Bohemian manufacturer to me, but which one ?Date wise I’m not sure although the deco period for some reason comes to mind ? Any thoughts many thanks .

ah, I'm sure we've had this pattern/design before, or very similar  -  but not in amethyst - only clear, but wouldn't swear to that.           Brain not working quickly enough to give prompt answer - will dig around.
So many of these crackle pieces lack a back stamp  -  stunning colour, well done.

There are a number of posts over many years discussing crackle glass - not overshot by the way  -  if you type the words into the board's search then provided you know how many colours there are in a rainbow - how many feet a dog has and that Ayers Rock is in Oz  -  you should get a lot of reading come up ............              until then, try this one.

Ummm, thanks for the heads up Paul, so far I’m seeing a lot of moulded then an applied handle, I’m not sure but this one may have a pushed in side and then the applied handle ??

I think the colour of this one is something else (probably lots of manganese?), and that pontil looks high quality  -  this must be a keeper.         The process seems to have been around since the 1870s, though this one is almost certainly much later  -  maybe 1930s - 1940s, and possibly eastern Europe?            The handle is a 'bottom up' job.      Used to see a lot of this type in the form of vases, waisted shape often, and in uranium too, but currently a dearth of the stuff.

Well-remembered Paul, we have had the Enigma Jug on the board before, way back in 2006!
