Amber Glass Bowl Identification - Mstisov Moser Zemek???
« on: September 22, 2021, 09:36:21 PM »
Hello again my friends at Glass Message Board
This is my latest find - Paid £8 in charity stall at a fair.
I have searched the net to see if I can find a similar bowl but can't find one!!!
Does anyone know the maker designer - It's a plain Jane but on its own it desplays well. I am guessing 60's /70's ??
Measuring approx: 48cm (19") wide x 17cm (6" + 5/8ths) deep x 12.7cm (5') higest point
If anyone could identify the maker, designer, age I would be very grateful.
Thanks you very much in advance
With best regards

:) This has a strong look of Chalet (from Canada) to me, but this is only a suggestion.

Confused I will be - I am!!!!
After researching Chalet (Canada) and contacting their FB page and looking at their entire catalogue I have been informed that it is not a piece by them. I can see why one would point me in their direction.
In studying their art glass nearly all are cased in clear glass and the majority have the Chalet logo and Canada etched into the base. My piece is solid amber glass with no clear glass casing, no makers mark or label. Also what made the search difficult is that Chalet changed its name in 1960 to "Murano Glass" and their work in fact is so similar to their Venetian counterparts owing to the company being set up by 3 Venetian glass masters and employed many glass blowers from Venice. I was then told to take a look at Lorraine and EDAG glass companies (both Canadian), again their work is almost always cased in clear glass and their designs are very similar to Chalet (Murano Glass) and most of the Venetian glass makers.
So as you can see i have come full circle - Does anyone have anymore suggestions?
I've really enjoyed the journey so far  ;D - I hope this all makes sense???
Thanks in advance for anymore pointers.
With kind regards
Gary - Glass Amore
PS: I have attached a picture of the side view showing no casing

I still keep getting excited thinking I have found the maker as in my search I keep bouncing back to Zemek of the Mstisov Glassworks but their work looks far better quality than my piece.

Those shots are far better at showing off the colour, Gary. It's a rosy golden amber rather than a dull one, which is very nice, and I would think an indication of better quality.
But I'm lost if it's not Chalet. This isn't really my area, I don't enough about other makers of this kind of glass.  :-[

Hi Sue
Thanks for your comments - You have helped me because as I research items I learn and try to understand the development of  glass companies and their expertise. I find it so interesting and to eliminate a company is a step nearer to finding the correct maker. Although I find it strange with the millions of images on search engines that the bowl does not come up. I had a cup and saucer from a friend (no backstamps), he had broken a cup and wanted me to find the pattern and the maker.  I went through hundreds of thousands of images and found it in  the end after two weeks and then found one on ebay for sale but never learnt the maker or the pattern name  :'(. So you can see that I am not the type of guy that gives up easily. but as I said strange there is nothing close to it on the net. I'm glad you think the quality maybe better than what I'm thinking. I hate owning glass that I don't know the history of. Thank you for your time to mail me, I really appreciate it.
With kind regards
