Cloud Glass Vase
« on: October 06, 2021, 12:44:26 PM »
I bought this at a boot sale as it's an unusual shape for cloud glass and I've so far not managed to identify the maker. It's 16cm tall and 15cm across the top and is quite heavy at 1.4kg. It has a rather curious domed base, perhaps for a flower frog to rest on. It has some wear on the base but I think it's possibly 1960's.

I'm sure I see these things in charity shops and they're not cloud as in Davidson etc., but sorry absolutely no idea as to origin or date.           There's also a temptation to think they might be from the streaky tumbler vase range made by W/Fs in the 1930s  -  if only.       Don't think I've ever seen one with a flower support/frog.            Sorry to be unhelpful.

Hi Nev,
I've also seen a few of these around, fairly sure there relatively modern and made from recycled glass. Wouldn't the base also point towards more mass produced factory glass?

Thanks Paul and Greg, the seller said it belonged to her parents so it may have a little age, I've seen one on Ebay described as "vintage reproduction". I'll keep looking.

Hi Nev, it's similar in style the Kosta Boda MINE pieces designed by Ulrica Hydman-Vallien. I've seen recycled glass ones in this cloud design too, never with that type of domed base though :)

You will find them in all sorts of cloudy colours, contemporary Spanish recycled glass. The Kosta Boda UHV wares have impressed marks.

very difficult to tell unless it's against a white background as it's hard to see the colour accurately and the swirls.

I had a white swirled bowl - same swirls, pointy pulled out rim, quite big, unbalanced base as too narrow.  Also made in Spain recycled glass.

This one is labelled Eco Glass  REcycled glass Made in Spain

Thanks flying free, I think Eco Glass are a strong possibility but can't confirm it, might be another Spanish company. Here's a photo against a white background. I'm still thinking 60's/70's.

Hi Nev,

If you search online under the following wording 'ecoware Recyclable Glass Planter' it should throw up a few similar examples.

Hope this helps.
