ALSO MARKED WITH " WM ( D ) ", THIS IS WHERE WILLIE MANSON MAY COME INTO IT.
WOULD YOU KNOW ANY MORE ABOUT THESE ?

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON.

Cufflinks were designed by Colin Terris. William Manson was at Caithness at the time but there is no particular reason for them to be marked by an apprentice as they were not marked by Paul either! Please describe the marks as they appear in sequence or ideally, can you take a photograph of the item and one of the mark too. You can email the pics to me for posting her if you wish (button below). I will try and find out who was the manufacturer in London which is the most likely source of the mark. Why is the D bracketted in your note?

William Manson from my Ysart Glass People page:
Apprenticed to Paul Ysart at Caithness to 1970 and Paul Ysart Paperweights c1970, assistant to Paul Ysart. At Caithness again, later producing work with his own canes. 1997 set up his own studio in Perth. 'Manart' glassware, a modern and original developement of the Ysart style. 2004 closed studio, working with John Deacons.

Have you checked Colin Terris's website?

THANKS FOR THE SPEEDY REPLY !

THE D IS AS ON THE CUFFLINKS

" WM (D ) " IS THE MARK AS IT IS STAMPED ON THE STEM OF THE CUFFLINK.

The cane is certainly by Paul Ysart and the WM(D) is the sponsor (Silversmith) mark. Once I get a reply on who the maker is, I will update this thread and my article.

From Colin Terris, who designed the cuff-links:

WM stands for Wally Morgan a London silversmith and part owner of Booty Jewellery who we used in the early 70's. The company was based in London and therefore used the London Hallmark.

Hi,

Not really any more that could be added. They sell on eBay for 20 to 100 pounds and pop up fairly regularly. Less often this early with a certain PY cane.

Frank
