Cut Glass Water Jug Possibly Bohemian Sadly AF
« on: December 09, 2021, 08:19:50 PM »
Rescued for the GMB this cut glass water jug sadly af with a large crack.
Cold painted.
Possibly Bohemian or French. I cannot make out the silver plate mark.
Decorated in what looks like Silver Birch or  Alder leaves and catkins.

Height 11"
Weight 1200gm.
Large polished pontil.

Thanks Roy

could you post a clear photo in daylight close up so we can see the acid etched background please?   oh and also a clear close up of the edge of what looks like acid etched cameo of the leaves?
Thank you :)
It's very interesting.  The handle is quite distinctive.

Background effect from what I can see, and the additional gilding reminds me a bit of this is what I was thinking:

And Harrach did use squared off quite chunky looking handles.

I am still not convinced with the signature on the jug in the link. I did ask for a better picture but it was not any better.

That signature does match the info on the Great Glass website, you will need to scroll down to Moser, look for one described as "cameo signature (found on Animor series)" :

I'd have thought the MK in a square mark would look like this one?

I'm not disputing that the cameo BargainJohn is marked MK but I just wouldn't have recognised it bizzarely

Neither matches the image on the Great Glass website exactly, (bit of head scratching going on here) in the latter case it deviates in a couple of ways - the horizontal bar on the bottom of the M and the point at which the M and K join... The rectangular box around it matches nicely though!

It seems that Moser were nearly as prolific in their variety of signatures as Daum...
