Wrythen moulded jug
« on: April 13, 2022, 01:58:12 PM »
Hi,this piece is 20cm/8” high, very light with one of those round broken pontil marks. There are 3 spots of wear it sits on , but nothing excessive ?.The rim is applied and it has the feel of those little soda glass cream jugs normally described as circa 1790 .I have found a similar shaped piece on line dated to 1760 and described as a continental water or wine jug .I’m not certain about this one though , any thoughts welcome thanks ….just to add it does have wear marks on it’s fattest part where it’s touched other items ,so it does have age .

Normandy cider jugs seem to have a lot of similarities, certainly the applied spouts and handles. They are generally dated to about 1800 or a bit either way. This does seem to have a thinner neck ….maybe for Calvados ;)
