HUGE Opaline Glass Vase
« on: July 21, 2022, 12:18:33 PM »
This is a huge 60cm. tall uranium opaline vase which I've put  next to a 17cm. Bagley vase to give an impression of it's size. It has a ground foot and a ground and polished rim. I think it is French and was sold as 1930's but I would put it at mid to late 19thC.

Having searched I would agree it's a lily vase, the style of the foot and the way it is finished I'm now thinking Bohemian, but I can't find anything similar.

There is a 63cm tall opaline vase in a similar shape (i.e. trumpet, tall, looks like a lily vase but it's not the same design as yours and is white opaline) in Das Bohmische Glas Band III page 54 plate III.52.  It's by Neuwelt and dated c.1860.

If so then possible candidates could be Schachtenbach (green opaline shown on page 161); Neuwelt (green opaline shown on page 55)

I should think there might have been other makers as candidates as well but those were just two I found on a quick look in that book.

(and now I've decided that an antique lily vase is a must-have!  I love lilies :) )

Thanks for that m, I haven't got the book but I'll do some research. I used to grow lilies but the dreaded scarlet beetles used to ruin them  :(.
