knobbly Czech ashtray bowl - maker?
« on: October 14, 2022, 10:48:03 AM »
I feel this knobbly ashtray is probably Czech and maybe by one of the Beraneks, but I haven't been able to tie down the maker/designer with any certainty, so over to you!
The colour is quite hard to describe, a kind of mauve-pink, it is in clear towards and including the bottom.
dimensions of 11 x 11 cm or 4.3 x 4.3 inches.
Cheers Geraint.

Forgot to say it has a ground down, slightly concave, polished pontil. This isn't something I associate with Czech glass generally, but I have read on here some Skrdlovice pieces did have this?

Thanks Nev - I must have missed that when going through the pattern books the other day.
It definitely looks the part, but I'd like to compare it to an actual photo of the 5456 to make sure, but I haven't been able to find one yet.
I have found two other examples of my piece online - one attributing it to Murano, which I think is a guess and the other with no attribution.

In the Skrdlovice design the pattern repeats three times around the bowl and almost looks six sided. Take a look from above, it kind of looks a bit square so I was wondering about four sides. Maybe not I can see three indents...

I see what you mean John. In the drawing there is almost a point on the right handed side, whereas my one is almost a perfect circle. But you never know if it's a slightly wonky drawing!  :)
