Orange and Gold Mdina signature
« on: February 06, 2023, 10:13:55 PM »
Recently bought this pair of vases. Smaller one labeled and signed Mdina. Larger one unlabeled and had indecipherable signatures. Ant thoughts much appreciated

The ‘designed by’ part being on top of a ‘Mdina’ signature?

Can now see possibility of "designed by" over Mdina and signature below . Have tried finding Martella,Mardella, Hartella and numerous other combinations. Only artists I can see signing pieces appear to be Dobson,Harris and Said. Does anybody know of any others.? I also wondered if Martella was perhaps a retail outlet in Malta, but can find no trace there either.
Thanks for all your suggestions

Looking again, I think it says ‘designed for’, not ‘designed by’.
‘Designed’ is on top of ‘mdina’, ‘for’ is on top of ‘02’.

Yes, that's what made me wonder about Martella being a retailer but can't find any trace

It might be well worth the trouble of emailing Mdina glass directly through their website. They have been very helpful in the past, especially with some of these more modern markings.

I have now received a reply from Mdina, Greg, and they have confirmed O2 manufacture date and think that the inscription was probably a personalization intended perhaps as a gift. Definetely not an artist. or retailer.
