Unidentified MCM glass lamp retro vintage
« on: April 30, 2023, 10:54:20 AM »
Does anyone know anything about this lamp, it seems to have the original fitting being earthed at the bulb holder, the lamp is very heavy with a hollow section the wire passes through, bulb holder is English, any ideas of maker or country of origin.
Many Thanks
David

Welcome to the message board David.

I have not seen this design before, the spirals look very neat and controlled only distorting where the neck was drawn out of the body. Wouldn't surprise me if your lamp turned out to be from Murano, lighting can be hard to identify accurately though. Spirals in a similar manner are often attributed to Luigi Onesto but I suspect at least some are wishful thinking.

Is there a groove on the base for the flex? Nice lamp!

John

Thanks John interesting, yes it has a groove at the bottom which is too shallow for the modern flex somebody had fitted.

The grooves are often too shallow for 3 core flex, when it was made two core would have been typical and the original bulb holder not earthed. Four or five self adhesive pads/feet around the edge should help lift the lamp off the flex a bit.
