Victorian Yellow Candlestick
« on: July 08, 2023, 11:37:41 AM »
I've searched the usual suspects but not been able to find this pattern. It's 8" tall. Density is 500/175 =2.85

Seen that one a few times, never been able to id it.

Which means it's almost certainly not
Percival Vickers, Robinsons, Sowerby, Davidson
Unlikely to be Molineaux Webb or Joseph Webb
Not going to be Greener or other northeast with that density value.

Which leaves likely makers as
Burtles Tate
Edward Bolton
Ker Webb
Derbyshires
or other

Ker Webb uranium yellow density is quite specific at around 2.8g/cc
I'm not sure the method you are using is accurate enough to place it to them though. You'd need to be sure you are accurate to 1-2% and I feel some of your results are more 5-10% variance (sorry Nev!)

Thanks for that Neil, it seems it's goin to be difficult to ID. You are right because I'm still using my old spring balance for the gravity test.

Thanks Mike, the base and the sconce are definitely the same. The seller mentions the 1880 catalogue, in the 1888 one the chamberstick on P.7 doesn't look to be the same, but I wouldn't rule out Moore or Joseph Webb.
