A fairly longstanding mystery vase for me but Greg has solved it after 13 years (via a Mark Hill Instagram post of a vase of his own).
Instagram link from Greg here:

Mark has had confirmation that his vase is by Bernard Rooke and that it probably dates to late 70s or early 80s.   I had a Rooke lamp at one time and remember in distant days investigating Bernard Rooke as a possibility but couldn't find anything to do with glass at that time, just pottery.
Very similar to a signed pottery vase here actually:

Pics attached I hope.

Time to make a new display I think :)

better pic of signature here for comparison

And a rather organic looking glass bottle with stopper here  sold 2019 which says 'etched Rooke to base' though doesn't show a photograph of the signature.

Described as 'An Unusual Studio Art glass bottle with stopper of baluster form, possibly by Bernard Rooke. In greeny blue hues with gold and brown colours running throughout. Etched to base "Rooke".

From a comment I read on the instagram link it seems BR only made glass for a short time as it wasn't his thing.  MH describes them as very rare.

;D I'm still really enjoying this even if it is second hand.  8)
I like the signature it's easy to remember. It seems to read "B. Roo Ice to the power of 3"
Your insides must be dancing with joy.  :-*

:-* Thanks for your interest and enjoyment Sue.

It's one of my favourite studio pieces (I don't have that many and I am sure you've seen them all! And I've sold some over the years :o).  It is really good to find out who made it after so many years.
I think it's lovely and quite organic in presentation/design.  It reminds me of early studio glass from the late 60s early 70s.

Just to add a little to this vase, it likely dates to the early 70s.

I was talking to a collector of his work a while ago who previously knew Bernard personally and also owned an unpublished (as far as I understand) book of Bernard Rooke's work by Richard & Elizabeth Thorpe dated 2001.

One of the pictures shows Bernard Rooke blowing glass in the early 1970s, so probably slightly early than first thought. I do have a copy of the picture from the book if of interest, although didn't want to post directly on the board due to copyright, although he thinks Bernard wouldn't mind!

Hi Greg, sorry I've tried to reply a few times today but keep getting Resource problem messages.
I've PM'd you via the envelope so I hope you received my email?

Thanks again for your help and information.  I appreciate it and it was really good to find out the vase is earlier than I thought.

Hi M, -thanks for your message, the board seems to have been having a few technical issues, I believe Anne is aware of them, apparently the hosting company upgraded the server which may have caused some of these new issues.

The board email function also seems to be playing up, on that note I emailed Anne who kindly offered to forward on the Bernard Rooke photo on to you, this may go to your your email address you registered with when joining the GMB.

Any problems just let me know and I'll try and work something else out!
