Topic: Whitefriars?

Hi, I was told this was Whitefriars but can't find it in my books.

This is a Whitefriars(?) amethyst glass optically ribbed vase blown sometime in the 1970s. The vase is in excellent condition.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with use.  The base carries a very neat polished out pontil mark.  The vase is a waisted cylinder in shape and measures 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter across rim.   The vase is blown in amethyst glass with vertical optical ribbing from base to rim. The vase is 13.8 cm (5.5 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.   It weighs in at 235 g. (~ 8 oz.).

Aubergine was used in the early 70s, this colour doesn't quite look right. An amethyst was used in the early 60s but I can't find this shape at that date in the catalogues, the colour was also used pre 1949 apparently.

Lovely glass. I have seen and bought this type of glass over the years that i have been collecting.
I understood them to be Whitefriars but with no evidence.
Again with no evidence i thought they were 30s or 40s era Whitefriars.
Amber is another colour i have but cant find the pictures.
Not a very informative reply, maybe a Whitefriars expert may drop by and have a look.

I'm no expert but I have similar pieces to this in shape which were from the Whitefriars Wealdstone Range. Glass made by them for Wuidart. You can check out your piece as an extensive catalogue was produced. Google Wealdstone Glass or Wuidart to find it. Never did learn how to attach a link. An age thing.

Hi, and thanks for the link to the Wealdstone range.  I've been through the Wealdstone catalogue a couple of times now but can't find the combination of shape and height that match my vase.  Never mind, it's always nice to have a project!:-)

I am reliably  informed that the Wealdstone Catalogue was not comprehensive and many pieces of the range were not included. I seem to recall that they were heavier than they looked. Best of luck with your search.
