Iridescent small vase
« on: July 05, 2024, 04:04:42 PM »
Hi all

I have got myself in a pickle with this attractive little vase. I didn't realise so many factories and studios produced this style. Anyone here recognise the shape. Many thanks

Thanks Keith

I have not owned any iridescent glass before and tbh my collecting area is 1960's 1970's so am well outside my comfort zone.

My little vase 13cm tall, has more purple that green to my eye, i think webbs would be greener and less variation throught the colours?

im intersted in the little nipple that appears just below the rim, i assume its a tooling mark or manufacturing flaw of some kind, but again not really familiar with the technicals of forming glass.

That looks like an air bubble formed it. It doesn't look to have much wear on the base at first glance.

I think Webb Bronze is much thicker (and smoother) glass than this. ???

The iridescence looks very bright for Webb and the rim is very uneven too. What colour is the base glass?

I agree about the rim its isnt very even, with regards the base colour for the glass, i cant really tell as the iridescent colour is all over it, keen to answer but unsure where to look...

To answer a previous comment, there is wear to the base, certainly appropriate for the weight of the piece to give it a fair bit of age, quite how much age i couldnt say.

Hold it up against the light; that should show you the base colour. Wear is only one clue to age. Some pieces can be over 100 years old with little wear; others can be very modern with lots of wear. It all depends how they have been treated and how often they have been moved about
