World's most frilly bowl !
« on: July 17, 2024, 10:58:09 PM »
9 inches across and 5 tall, polished pontil, lots of wear and threaded, there is a basket in Gulliver's book page 191, almost identical minus the handles, no doubt it's Stuart.

 :o ;D
I'm wondering if it might be a Bride's Basket, just without the handle added. Possibly because they couldn't find anywhere to put the ends?
It does have a kind of indent that makes the bowl the correct shape.
It's an incredible beast. Wierd and wonderful. ;D 8) 8)

It could just be that the top part looks a bit like the garter a bride is supposed to wear has got me on a bridal theme.  :-[

I can recall seeing quite a few bowls in this sort of shape without handles so I think it was a 'thing' at some point.

Do you like the bowl Keith?  (it's construction and design kind of embodies that entire extreme end of Victoriana obsession if you know what I mean?) I have a big red and clear frilly Stuart that is kept carefully in a darkened cupboard  ;D

ummm ... ok  ;D  That said I do wonder how many people actually love the Biedermeier glass I like  8) .  It's  the very masculine (in my eyes) versus the extreme feminine of Victoriana.

I like most glass apart from Murano clowns, I really do not like those things.
